Janet Jackson Delicious Festival

Five-time Grammy Award-winning singer Janet Jackson aka Miss Jackson If You’re Nasty will be lighting up this year’s DStv Delicious International Food & Music Festival Powered by LottoStar, joining fellow music icon Jill Scott and an array of South African stars to celebrate 30 years of creative freedom in South Africa at the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit on 21 and 22 September 2024.

Janet is far more than just the youngest sibling in the famous hit-making Jackson family – she has forged her own independent sound and style over the years. Her irresistibly funky brand of dance-pop music flavoured with R&B grooves has made her one of the world’s most successful recording artists of recent times.

Here are five fast facts about Ms Jackson – one for each of her Grammys:

Did you know:

  1. Janet Jackson is the only woman singer in the history of rock ’n roll to score five back-to-back number one albums on the US Billboard albums chart: Control, Janet Jackson’s Rhythm Nation 1814, Janet, The Velvet Rope and All for You – which, together, sold more than 60-million copies worldwide.

  2. Having sold over 100-million records globally to date over her 40-year music career, Janet is one of the best-selling artists in the history of contemporary music.

The song’s highly stylised black-and-white music video/short film, with its electrifying choreography, won three MTV Video Music Awards and a Grammy for Best Music Video and is widely regarded as one of the best music videos ever made.

  4. Janet has enjoyed a successful acting career alongside her singing career, having starred in the 1970s TV comedy series Good Times, in the dance-oriented youth series Fame, in Poetic Justice alongside the late Tupac Shakur (for which her title track was nominated for a Best Original Song Oscar), Nutty Professor II: The Klumps, and later in Tyler Perry movies Why Did I Get Married?, Why Did I Get Married Too? and For Colored Girls.

  5. Janet was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2019 – crowning a lifetime of achievements that have included 11 American Music Awards, five Grammy Awards, 10 MTV Video Music Awards and 11 Billboard Music Awards.
